Sight by T.R. Braxton is an interesting look into the mind of Nathan, a young colored boy living in the early days of the Civil Rights Movement.Nathan is gifted (or perhaps cursed) with the "Sight" which enables him to foresee things that are going to happen to him and those around him. But knowing what is coming doesn't always mean he can stop or change what is meant to be, especially at such a tender age.
Very well written. T.R. Braxton takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. The details of the scenes in this book made me feel like I was right there experiencing what young Nathan was experiencing.
Can't wait to read what T. R. Braxton comes up with next.

A very well presented story that had me solidly within it's grasp. I would recommend it for fans of paranormal, historical fiction, and folks who like good writing. The only issue I had with it was that the transitional point when the main character loses his innocence and takes matters into his own hands seemed to jump in too abruptly, it was slightly jarring and seemed to be an unlikely personality shift given the person I'd gotten used to for the first half of the book. That being said, I still recommend this story. Made me see some things that I as a northern (very northern...as in Alaskan) white guy would not otherwise have seen. Well done.
Sight combines the moral obligation of "seeing" the future with the moral dilemnas of the racist 1900's. Nathan's struggle with his gift to help/hurt his family was very well written. It takes many years to determine that all actions have consequences, no matter how well intended. For a good portion of the book, I forgot he was an adolescent, struggling with the loss of most of his family.
I appreciated the depiction of the time period. The circumstances of the period make the story very believable.

Nathan Walker is a young man who has a rare gift to do things with his mind. With this gift, he is able to protect his father, who's a civil rights activist. The power of Nathan's gift overwhelms him so much that he steps away from it. Due to a family tragedy, Nathan is determined to get revenge on the persons responsible. But the misuse of his gift may give Nathan more than he bargained for.
Sight is an interesting tale about the extraordinary gifts of a young boy. T.R. Braxton did a good job with showing how Nathan's skills developed and how it changed the lives of his family forever. The storyline and scenes are very vivid and keeps you glued to the pages. You see the growth of Nathan throughout this story as well. There is a constant switching back and forth from the past to the present in this novel, which made it a little confusing to read. It would have been better if Braxton just had the story flow naturally from past to present instead of stopping the action to jump back into the past or vice versa. Sight is still an engaging novel for those that want something different.
In Sight by T. R. Braxton young Nathan Walker learns that he has a special gift. This gift can be a blessing or curse according to how its owner uses it. Nathan and his family meet an elderly woman named Ruth who volunteers to help Nathan master his gift. Ruth also helps Nathan learn how to understand his gift. Before his lessons are completed Ruth explains to Nathan specific instructions regarding his gift and if not followed could cause damage beyond his imagination.
James Walker comes to the realization that his son is different than most children. James tries to understand the abilities that his son possesses even though they make him feel uncomfortable. James decides to acquire help for his son while pursuing the opening and running of his grocery store. When the family is hit with a sudden tragedy, Nathan's behavior changes and nothing will ever be the same for the Walkers.
Sight is about history, family and the powerful abilities that a young boy possesses. This book will surprise readers from its slow beginning to its overwhelming ending. While reading this book I felt anger and sadness while being excited to reach the end of the book. The author did a wonderful job keeping me just as curious as Nathan about the wonders of his abilities. I recommend Sight to others.

I recieved this book in paperback as part of First Reads on Goodreads and this is my completely honest review. As a quick note, I believe this book could be triggering for people who have issues with rape or racism.
I think that this was a very tightly written book. Everything was included for a reason with no unnecessary bits. A lot happened even though it isn't a very long book. I really appreciate that tightness. I thought that the lead characters, Nathan, James, Naomi, and Miss Ruth were all interesting and well written characters. The other more minor characters were not nearly as dimensional, but they didn't really need to be as this was mostly Nathan's story. I enjoyed the way the Paranormal bits were portrayed. All in all, I quite enjoyed reading it.
I only have a minor nitpick. The story does have a few timelines that it jumps between. For the most part I really enjoyed getting the backstory as it was relevant, however in the first couple of chapters it switches very fast and often. I would have just liked a little more time between jumps as the story got started, but this did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. Just a matter of taste. My other negative point has nothing to do with the author or the content of the story, but rather the book itself. The pages in most books are an off white or slightly beige to help counteract eye strain. These pages are stark white and I did end up taking longer than normal to finish the book because I often had to take breaks due to eye fatique and blurriness.
I would recommend this for fans of Paranormal or Historical Fiction.
